Boyertown Wellness Council votes for a change in name but not purpose

Often considered an initiative of the Boyertown School District, the independent Boyertown Area Community Wellness Council voted at its quarterly meeting in April, to change its name to Wellness Council of Boyertown (WCB).

Though often working cooperatively with the School District, WCB is a community-based organization whose mission is ‘to facilitate wellness education and programming in order to motivate the community to adopt healthy lifestyles.’ WCB members include the Boyertown Area School District, Pottstown Area Health and Wellness Foundation, Pottstown Memorial Medical Center, McCormick Chiropractic, Community Health and Dental Care, as well as many individual community residents. WCB, with the assistance of three members of the 2014 Tri-County Chamber of Commerce leadership class, launched the rebranding, in part, as an effort to reflect the Council’s independent status and grassroots work.

WCB continues to sponsor the Annual Boyertown Community Wellness Fair, Running of the Bears, Kid’s Celebrity Chef, monthly Senior Bingo Walking and Healthy Living Cinema, as well as many other events promoting the health and well-being of the community. The next free community event sponsored by WCB is a family Community Field Day on Aug. 16, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Hickory Park, Gilbertsville.

As part of the rebranding, WCB is organizing a Logo Design Contest with community voting being held August 16th at Community Field Day. WCB is seeking students who can design a creative, innovative and professional logo design. The logo should be recognizable and help promote our organization’s mission. The designer of the winning logo will receive a Dick’s Sporting Goods gift card.

‘With the name change, expanded board membership and strategic plan, the Wellness Council of Boyertown remains focused on healthy eating and physical activity and will be expanding programming to support stress management and overall well- being for members of the greater Boyertown community of all ages,’ said Diane Lauer, Director of the Wellness Council of Boyertown.
