Kutztown School District brings aboard a new network administrator and approves resurfacing the high school tennis courts.
In their last meeting, the Kutztown Area School District School Board approved the restructuring of the district’s Technology Department. The restructure was deemed necessary in order to reduce the department’s high turnover rate and put highly qualified personnel in place.
On Aug. 4, the board approved the revised start date of Marty A. Miller to begin effective immediately as the district’s new network administrator.
‘The position has actually been empty since April, and we just weren’t able to get somebody to fill it until now, somebody that we thought was of the caliber that we wanted,’ Superintendent Katherine Metrick said in an interview with The Patriot.
According to Metrick, there have been three different people in the role of network administrator since the time she arrived two years ago. The board’s hope is that restructuring the Technology Department will make it a more desirable place for individuals to work.
In other news, the upper two tennis courts at the high school will be resurfaced after the board approved Horizon Sports Group to complete the work at a cost of $13,000. Horizon Sports Group is a specialty sports construction group based out of Coopersburg.
According to Business Administrator/Board Treasurer David Miller, the two tennis courts’ surfaces have caused several players to fall this past year, and were in need of repair to improve playing conditions and safety.
‘It’s got bird baths, cracks – it’s just badly in need of [repair],’ Miller said. ‘It needs to be safe.’
Lastly, the board approved a service agreement with Kistler O’Brien Fire Protection for the inspection and maintenance of all school district fire extinguishers and kitchen fire suppression systems at an approximate cost of $2,647.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Aug. 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the High School library.
