Breinigsville woman, 44, stepped out in front of train in Topton; death ruled suicide

A woman was struck and killed by a train in Topton on Friday. Police ruled her death a suicide.

About quarter mile east of the Main Street and Center Avenue intersection in Topton Borough, Paula Theres, 44, Breinigsville, entered onto the railroad tracks from the south side at 9:10 p.m. on Aug. 8.

‘She stood in the center of the tracks facing an oncoming Norfolk Southern Train. As the train approached closer, Theres stepped slightly to her right and was struck and killed by the impact,’ according to the state police report by Trooper Finkbiner.

The impact threw Theres several feet where she landed between both sets of tracks, according to the report.

Her death was ruled a suicide.
