ROBESON TWP. – A Birdsboro man died of natural causes as he fought to regain control of a brush fire in the township Sunday around 1 p.m.

According to a press release from state police, George Fritz Bernhard, 88, died while he tried to regain control of a controlled burn that got out of hand at 730 Rock Hollow Road in Robeson.

‘The fire started at a pile of tree stumps that was being burned in an open field,’ state police from the Reading barracks said in a press release.

Bernhard was found when fire companies from Gibraltar and Geigertown responded to a report of a brush fire called in by neighbors.
