The Union Township Board of Supervisors unanimously approved on Aug. 19 for Board Chairman Donald E. Basile to meet with Penn DOT officials on Sept. 10 or 11 regarding the installation of a left turn lane from Route 724 eastbound onto northbound River Bridge Road.
Basile said at the board’s July 21 meeting that two homeowners along Route 724 have agreed to allow use of their property for installation of the turn lane. ‘The township needs a full, left turn lane at River Bridge Road,’ said Basile, adding that the lane would benefit Ethan Michael Inc. (EMI) and their Liberty Bell Motorsports Park, as well as the Vistas at Riverside.
Basile said EMI is in the final stages of the land development approval process for Liberty Bell; the only thing still required is the highway occupancy permit from PennDOT for the motorsports park entrance, and also at River Bridge Road.
W.B. Homes, North Wales, Montgomery County, has received preliminary approval for its 274-unit, age-restricted housing plan, The Vistas at Riverside, Route 724 and Red Corner Road. A meeting with the township’s auditors is scheduled for Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. to set the roadmaster’s part-time salaried rate.
Supervisor Nelson L. Ott, Jr., will be paid for five to 10 weekly hours of ‘supervising’ the road crew.
The meeting is open to the public.
Board members said the roadmaster position was previously a full time position, held by previous supervisor, John Salaneck, III, who performed the same jobs as the road crew.
The motion to approve the Aug. 28 meeting also included repealing the 2011 full time roadmaster position description and adopting the 2014 part tine roadmaster position description.
Board members regretted the passing of Walter Davidheiser, age 85, on Aug. 1, a long-time member of the Kulptown Fire Company.
Basile said the board will display a plaque in the township building in honor of Davidheiser, ‘in appreciation for years of service with the Kulptown Fire Company.’
Due to the lack of a written maintenance agreement, the township will now mow and maintain one of the township’s ballfields that was used this year by a local youth sports association.
Basile said the township will continue to maintain the 13 to 15 acre area until there is a written agreement with ‘whoever’ will be using that particular field.
The ballfields were built two years ago at the Union Township Recreation Area, Route 724.
‘The verbal agreement was that they would maintain in order to have priority use, but we had mixed signals [from the club],’ said Parks and Recreation Board Chairperson James H. Yocom, adding, ‘Another group — the Daniel Boone Coaches Association — has done great things with one of the fields.’
The estimated cost to contract the mowing is $1,000 per week.
