The Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy and Lehigh County Conservation District are partnering to host two tree plantings on Tuesday, Sept. 16 and Wednesday, Sept. 17.

The planting is will be taking place along Palm Rd in Lower Milford Township, Lehigh County, at the PPL Substation. Volunteers will plant 150 native trees and shrubs along a 415′ stretch of an un-named tributary to the Hosensack Creek in the Perkiomen Creek Watershed. This project has been provided by the support of Growing Greener Grant funds received by Lehigh County Conservation District in partnership with PA Fish & Boat Commission, Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, and Perkiomen Valley Trout Unlimited. In July, in-stream restoration was completed. With assistance from volunteers, project partners installed fish habitat structures, removed existing dams, and seeded streambanks. Now, volunteers are needed to help plant native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers along the stream to establish a riparian buffer.

The Sept. 16 planting will further enhance fish, aquatic, and wildlife habitat, while expanding wild trout populations in this watershed. The riparian buffer will help keep stream temperatures cooler, and provide a shady oasis for fishermen who regularly enjoy this fishing spot.
