From Civil War weaponry to kid’s friendship bracelets, the Hay Creek Festival has it all.

The Hay Creek Festival is an event created 38 years ago to let people of today explore what life was like between the years of 1791 to the 1950s.

‘I’ve been going with my family since I was a kid and not a bit has changed. I still enjoy it just as much,’ Alicia Bauer, Honey Brook, said. The Hay Creek Festival had many activities, with one of the best parts of it being the food. The food is fresh, low cost, and absolutely delicious. Kaitlyn March, Honey Brook, attended on Saturday, Sept. 6 for the first time. ‘I just love the food, but my favorite part is the ice cream without a doubt,’ she said.

Cindy Bonnet worked the festival as a cook. Bonnet cooked right in front of visitors on a stone oven. She specialized in fritters and had apple, corn, and bean to offer. Cindy said her hopes were ‘for people to see how hard women worked back then and for people to appreciate the different food that they use to make.’

The Hay Creek Festival ran from Friday, Sept. 5 to Sunday, Sept. 7. You may have missed it this year, but watch out for next year’s Hay Creek Festival because you will not want to miss out on it twice.
