The Albright College community remains in mourning after the weekend fire that caused the death of one student and the hospitalization of two others.

Matt Rein, a sophomore from South River, N.J., died as a result of injuries sustained in the fire. He was an environmental science major and a member of the men’s swim team. The injured students are senior Chris Longworth and freshman Tim Resch, who are both recovering.

Counselors were made available to the student body over the weekend and are maintaining their usual office hours today for any students who wish to meet individually or as a group. In addition, counselors met with the swim team today.

‘All of us at Albright extend our heartfelt condolences to the Rein family,’ said College President Lex O. McMillan III. ‘We also offer sympathy to the injured students and their families. All of them are in my thoughts and prayers.’

McMillan also thanked the first responders who arrived on the scene to assist. ‘We are grateful to the Reading Fire Department and Police Department for their help and dedication,’ he said.

In order to respect their privacy during this time of tragedy and mourning, Albright students will not be made available for interviews. Questions should continue to be addressed to the Office of College Relations, 610-921-7526.
