State Rep. Mark Gillen (R-Berks) is inviting Berks County residents to join him on Thursday, Sept. 25, anytime between 2-7 p.m. for the Miller-Keystone Blood Drive at the Dairy Queen near Shillington, where those attendees who donate blood will receive a free ice cream cake.

‘I am impressed every year by the generosity of local residents and their willingness to donate blood and help someone else in need,’ Gillen said.

The blood drive will take place at the Dairy Queen at the intersection of Route 625 and Route 724.

To donate blood, residents should call Gillen’s district office at 610-775-5130 to schedule a donor appointment, which is necessary to participate.

Donors will be required to show photo identification on the day of the blood drive.

‘I like to think of blood donors as anonymous philanthropists,’ Gillen said. ‘They’re doing something for other people expecting nothing in return beside the satisfaction of knowing they may be saving a life.’

For more information, including a link to frequently asked questions that blood donors may have, residents are encouraged to visit Gillen’s website at www.RepGillen.com and click on the ‘Blood Drive’ graphic link at the top of the page.
