Members of the Boyertown Senior High School Class of 1944 recently gathered to celebrate their 70th class reunion. The event took place on Friday, Sept. 19 at Kings Buffet in Pottstown.

Class members arrived one by one, greeting one another and catching up. Among those in attendance were Evelyn (Evie) Acker, Gerald Cleary, Betty Karver, Bill Moeller, Nancy Mutter, Marie Eichert, Virginia Bryan, Charles Gehris, Harry Erb, Isabelle Kumph, Richard Yoder and Fern Fronheiser.

According to Acker, an organizer of reunion, there was originally 94 individuals in her class. There are now 41 surviving members.

Acker contacted each of the members by phone to let them know about the gathering which takes place on the third Friday of September each year. Acker and two other women from the group have been organizing the event for the past 20 years, since their 50th reunion in 1994.

As a part of the tradition, they keep a record of the surviving members in a book which is also signed by the members.

According to Acker, this was likely the last reunion for the class-the members of which are in their late 80s.
