The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today a project will begin Monday (Sept. 29) to improve the intersection of PA 562 with Shelbourne and Oley Turnpike roads in Exeter Township, Berks County.

The intersection project involves roadway reconstruction, new traffic signals, new left turn lanes from all directions, drainage improvements, new curb ramps, new signs and line paint. The project will also realign Oley Turnpike Road at PA 562 to provide a more direct intersection of the two roadways.

Motorists should anticipate lane restrictions on PA 562 between the St. Lawrence Borough line and Schoffers Road, on Shelbourne Road between Hunters Run Boulevard and PA 562, and on Oley Turnpike Road between PA 562 and Blackwood Drive. The lane restrictions may occur daily between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Drivers are advised to use caution driving through the work zone and to allow extra time to travel through the area. Updates will be provided if restrictions are to occur at other times.

Work is expected to be completed in October 2015. Average daily traffic volumes at this intersection are 7,764 vehicles on PA 562, 4,886 vehicles on Shelbourne Road and 4,267 vehicles on Oley Turnpike Road.

J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, Pa. is the general contractor on the $2,167,603 project.
