Emmanuel Metayer, of Bernville, was awarded a Mid Atlantic regional Emmy award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Sept. 20 at a ceremony in Philadelphia.

Students from the Kutztown University Department of Electronic Media won two Mid Atlantic regional Emmy awards at the ceremony. KU received four nominations for the Crystal Pillar, the award given to colleges and universities. There are eight college and university production categories. KU swept the Live Sports Production category receiving all of the nominations. They also received two nominations in the Arts and Entertainment/Public Affairs category.

Kutztown was second only to Penn State University which won four awards. Temple and Drexel Universities each won one.

The department received a 2013 Crystal Pillar for outstanding achievement in college/university student production by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. They have been nominated ten times since 2012.

In addition, three KU alumni working in the industry brought home awards. They include:

Earlier in September the department unveiled its new mobile production vehicle. The new custom 20-foot Well Cargo box trailer houses a new Ross Carbonite video switcher and multi-viewer system, a Newtek 425 three play digital replay system and AJA digital video recorders. Equipment moved from the former production truck includes five Hitachi Z4000W digital cameras, Chyron character generator, Mackie 24 channel audio board, CD player and recorder. The trailer was designed and built on campus by KU faculty and students. The unit has an over length of 25-feet, is eight-feet wide and 11-feet tall. It is cooled by two air conditioning units and has a generator for power if shore power is not available.

The Department of Electronic Media Department operates within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. Students in the program become familiar with all aspects of the electronic media industry and are given comprehensive training in video and audio production for a variety of audiences and content distribution. The NATAS is a professional service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. It was founded in 1957.

The Mid Atlantic is one of 19 regions of the NATAS and covers Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. This marks the 32nd year for the Mid Atlantic Emmy Awards.
