The Goddard School in Gilbertsville has been chosen to participate in the seventh Goddard School Preschooler-Approved Toy Test, beginning Oct. 6.

Each year, 50 out of more than 400 Goddard Schools throughout the nation are chosen to participate. This year is the first for the Gilbertsville location, which has been serving the community for 13 years.

Owner Sal Boccella III is excited about the opportunity.

‘We are honored,’ said Boccella. ‘They shipped 22 different toys to us, and these are some really great educational toys.’

For one week, kids in all classrooms, from infants to Kindergarteners, will get a chance to enjoy playtime with an array of new, educational toys.

According to the website, ‘The Goddard Schools Toy Test committee selects toy finalists based on a research-based set of criteria. All selected toys: encourage interactive, child-initiated play, inspire creativity and collaboration, support skill development and learning, maintain a child’s creative interest over time, meet GSI’s health and safety standards and retail for $40 or less.’

After the week of play ends, parents, teachers, staff and other family and community members are encouraged to participate in a nationwide vote for the top ten toys.

‘Anyone can vote,’ said Boccella. ‘It is open to the community as a way to bring everyone involved in the children’s lives together. We are really looking forward to finding out the top ten.’

The results of the vote are announced right before the holiday shopping season.

‘The announcement right before the holiday season encourages parents to think about which toys they want to give their children as gifts,’ said Boccella. ‘The hope is for them to choose these educational options.’

The toy that receives the most votes will also be donated to Toys for Tots this holiday season.

The vote will begin on Nov. 1 and be accessed on the Goddard School website at www.goddardschool.com.
