Shoemakersville Borough Council approved new contracts for trash hauling and recycling with Republic Services, Leesport, pending solicitor approval on Oct. 7.

Each contract is for two years plus two one-year options and begins on Nov. 1, according to solicitor Keith Mooney.

The yearly costs of the new contracts to the borough will be $162 per residence for trash hauling and $34 per residence for recycling.

Current collection services cost property owners $70 per quarter, according to borough secretary Melissa Wagner.

Any changes to those rates will not be determined until next year’s budget is finalized, Wagner said.

The new contracts represent a change in current collection haulers.

Before approving the contracts, Mooney will review an objection by another bidder who claimed that Republic Services did not meet bid specifications.
