Iron Chef is a fundraiser for the Hamburg Area Education Foundation (HAEF) which provides grants to students and teachers for educational opportunities and it is also a day about food. It will be Nov. 2 from 1 – 5 p.m. at Hamburg Area High School.

There are four main activities that take place during the day. Vendors and restaurants display samples of their food throughout the building in different stations. While guests go around and sample all the different foods, attached to their ticket is a piece of paper used for the People’s Choice Award. The People’s Choice award is when guest get to vote for which vendor they think has the best dish.

After the votes are taken for the People’s Choice Award, the Iron Chef Competition starts. Three competitors are up on stage and are given a basket. Inside the basket is a mix of different items that need to be used in making a restaurant style food dish. They must use all the items and are timed during this process. There are also cooking demos, raffles, and an auction that occur throughout the day.

The returning Iron Chef Champion is Chef Tim for Prime Steak and Wine or otherwise known as the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The two other competitors are from Haags Hotel and the Sterling Guest House. Some of the other vendors that will attend are Virginville Hotel, Indian Fort Inn, Penn Warner Hotel, Wayhar Farms, Adelphia Seafood and Peter’s Brothers.

Last year more than 600 people attended this event and each year it gets bigger and bigger. This event will take place on Sunday Nov. 2 from 1-5 p.m. at the high school.
