On Saturday, Nov. 1, Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a smoke condition and possible structure fire at Iezzi’s Bar at 61 South Reading Avenue in Boyertown. This occurred at approximately 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Upon arrival, fire officials confirmed that the building was evacuated. Firefighters then entered the structure and searched the entire building to check for heat as well as the source of the smoke. The smoked was primarily found on the first floor in the bar area, according to Fire Information Officer Jeff Bealer.
“The source was determined to be a small electric 1 horsepower 3 gallon air compressor that the motor had burnt up and caused smoke to fill the building,” said Bealer in a release about the incident. “The structure was not on fire and did not have any fire damage.”
Following the search, the building was ventilated with exhaust fans and turned over to the owners Jim and Joe DiCindio at 2:45 p.m.
According to Bealer, the owners were still determining if they would open the business that day. There were no injuries to either the residents or any of the approximately 50 firefighters that responded.
Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue was assisted at the scene by Eastern Berks Fire Company, Gilbertsville Fire Company, Boyertown Ambulance and Boyertown Police.
