On Saturday, Nov. 8, volunteers from the BBB Tree Committee, Boyertown Area Senior High School, and Boy Scout Troop 503 and others helped to plant nearly two dozen new trees in the Borough of Boyertown.
The event was made possible due to the fact that the Borough of Boyertown, in collaboration with Building A Better Boyertown, was recently awarded a TreeVitalize grant to plant 21 trees in the Borough.
The awarded grant follows a request submitted by the tree committee, working with the borough and State Forester Rick Hartlieb, to plant the 21 trees this season. These trees were set to be planted in designated areas which include the Inner Core Parking Lot, North Reading Avenue and East Fourth Street.
According to Building a Better Boyertown, the BBB Tree Committee and the Borough have been working together for more than a decade to improve the tree canopy.
“All trees were provided by Harmony Hills Nursery in Downingtown. Each tree will be provided with a 5 gallon ‘Gator Bag’ which allows for the slow release of water without rapid evaporation while the young trees establish their root systems,” stated a recent release. “Local volunteer fire companies will provide ongoing water needs as needed. Soil and excavation services will be provided by Hetrick Nursery.”
