The Oley Township Supervisors have announced the scheduling of the second budget meeting for Sat., Nov. 15 at 8 a.m. at the township building. The meeting is open to the public.

The county-wide radio system has been installed in the township’s police cars and went into service Nov. 3. It was reported that the transition went well but there is still work to be completed.

Police Chief David White publicly thanked all fire and police personnel who assisted in the recent Zackon 5K run, the Oley Halloween/Homecoming parade and the Oley Valley Elementary School Halloween parade.

Additionally, White reported an increase in daytime burglaries in Berks County. He urged all residents to report suspicious activity and to take measures to ensure the safety of their homes.

Township Road Superintendent Duane Howard reported that leaf collection in the township is becoming a problem, with residents increasingly putting leaves on the street for collection. Howard reminded residents that township equipment is used only for leaf removal from storm drainage, and that Oley does not have a leaf collection program.

Howard encouraged residents to refrain from putting leaves on the curb, citing lack of equipment or the manpower to handle it.

It was reported that fire chief Todd Kegerise was reelected to another one-year term. Kegerise, in attendance at the meeting, urged supervisors during their upcoming budget talks to maintain current funding levels for the fire company.

Additionally, Kegerise reported the installation of two “dry” fire hydrants on the property of Michael Matlock, 21 Foxglove Lane. Matlock provided the hookups free of charge to the township.

Spatz announced the resignation of Ray Prussman from the township’s planning commission, effective immediately. Spatz said anyone interested in serving in the volunteer position should contact Township Manager Shirley Moyer.

Oley resident Deborah Hannum updated the supervisors on the status of the Oley Valley Community Library. The library has recently relocated to space located in the basement of Frieden’s U.C.C. Church on Main Street. Hannum said the library is making plans to continue programs started at the old facility, including preschool and summer reading programs.

“We have lots of wonderful, vibrant programs including the Lego Club and the Knitting Club. We are in the process of building three new computers for the use of the community, and we have lots of volunteers in the works. We appreciate your past support and would very much appreciate your continued support,” Hannum said.

Library hours have yet to be determined.
