Representative Charlie Dent (PA-15) released the following statement after his appointment as the Chairman of the House Ethics Committee for the 114th Congress.
“I appreciate the trust that the Speaker and my colleagues have placed in me for the last six years as I have served on the Ethics Committee. As Chairman of the House Ethics Committee for the 114th Congress, I will serve with diligence and integrity to ensure enforcement of the highest standards of ethical conduct,” said Dent. “The Ethics Committee is a unique committee because it is made up of an equal number of members from each party. It must operate in a truly bipartisan manner. Some of the strongest relationship I have forged with colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, have been through my work on the Ethics Committee. I look forward to continuing to work in that manner to provide the accountability and transparency the American people demand of their elected leaders,” Dent concluded.
Congressman Dent serves Pennsylvania’s 15th Congressional District, which is comprised of all of Lehigh County and parts of Northampton, Berks, Lebanon, and Dauphin counties. He was first appointed to the Ethics Committee in 2009. He also serves as a member of the House Committee on Appropriations.
The House Ethics Committee, created in 1967, enforces the standards of official conduct for Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and has jurisdiction to administer travel, gift, financial disclosure, outside income, and other regulations; advise members and staff; issue advisory opinions and investigate potential ethics violations. The Committee includes five members of each party and the day-to-day work of the Committee on Ethics is conducted by a staff that is nonpartisan by rule.
