Nineteen banners will be waiting and waving for Thanksgiving Day so residents and travelers in Shartlesville can give their silent thanks for services these folks rendered, for what they endured for all, whether in World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Cold War, Vietnam, or Operation Enduring Freedom for Afghanistan.

The banners include men and women, living and deceased, who served in the Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy.

Including on one of the banners one who survived the Bataan Death March, a POW in WWII.

These banners are the results of Lions Gerald and Pamela Pozniak having seen similar ones in Tamaqua.

“It gave us goose bumps,” said Pam. “It was a good thing to see our vets being honored.”

That experience was shared with the Shartlesville Lions Club which endorsed the project.

Orders were taken, with family members and friends paying for the banners now reminding all of service above self rendered. Names include Anspach, Bailey, Connect-Tek, Clemens, Deisemann, Gingrich, Haag, Hartman, Hoppes, Kauffman, Pozniak, Spatz, Steinly, Stoudt, Strouse, Wagner, and multiples of some.

More such banners can be added providing a minimum order is collected.

For more information, one can contact Pam Pozniak at 610-488-5171.

In the meantime, all can give thanks for those who so nobly served and are serving today, each one marching with the heroes of the past.
