Truck driver Vincente Espinvera charged in May 2014 triple fatal fiery crash on 78, Greenwich Township

A truck driver has been charged in the investigation of a triple fatal crash that claimed the lives of three people on May 12, 2014 on I-78 in Greenwich Township.

State Police and Berks County District Attorney John Adams held a joint press conference Nov. 26 announcing that numerous traffic charges were filed against truck driver Vincente Espinvera, 56, Belleville, N.J.

“The charges stem from the investigation of a triple fatal traffic crash on May 12, 2014 on Interstate 78 at mile marker 41.5 eastbound in Greenwich Twp., Berks County,” according to a release from the State Police.

Espinvera has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle (F3) 3 counts, Aggravated Assault by Vehicle (F3) 2 counts, Involuntary Manslaughter (M1) 3 counts, Recklessly Endangering another Person (M2) 17 counts, and numerous summary offenses, according to the release.

Espinvera surrendered on Nov. 26, at the office of MDJ Kim Bagenstose, Hamburg. Espinvera was arraigned by Bagenstose who set bail at $10,000 straight bail. He was released after posting bail.

Previously posted by Berks-Mont Newspapers in May 2014, a seven vehicle crash killed three people and closed Interstate 78 eastbound most of the day.

Traffic was slowing in the eastbound lane at mile marker 41.5 in Greenwich Township at 1:15 p.m. when a tractor trailer was unable to slow down and rear ended a car, said State Police Trooper David Beohm.

Seven total vehicles were involved in the accident, including four car fires and three fatalities Robert Rosner, 52, Allentown; Edward Dearden, 57, York; and Theresa Dearden, 54, York.
