A local breakfast spot is seeking community support following a theft over the weekend.

The animal donation jar at The JukeBox Cafe in Boyertown has been reported missing. Employees of the restaurant believe the incident occurred on Black Friday or Saturday, Nov. 29. It is believed that there was $300 to $400 in the jar.

“I want to restore my faith in humanity,” said Becky Dahms, restaurant employee. “I want to know that good people do outweigh the bad.”

She says the money, which was to benefit two shelters, was set to go towards the printing of annual charity calendars that are sold in order to increase profits. “The calendars are sold so the money is doubled-so it’s really like they stole $800,” said Dahms. “In six years, we never had a problem.”

The Jukebox Cafe now invites community members to drop off monetary donations or animal supplies to help re-coup the losses.

“I want to be overwhelmed with generosity,” said Dahms.

According to a 2011 Times story, it as in the December of 2007 when the restaurant orginally put the jar on the counter asking for donations for the Montgomery County SPCA. “We did very well and were able to donate $200 worth of dog and cat food and supplies,” said Dahms in 2011. “We decided to keep the container on the counter, and whenever we reach $200, we donate the money or supplies to an animal shelter or rescue.”

Donations can be dropped off at The JukeBox Cafe, 535 S Reading Ave., Boyertown, from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As of Monday, Dec. 1, there were no suspects and the incident had not been reported to police due to lack of witnesses. Anyone with information is invited to call the restaurant at 610-369-7272.
