For more than three decades, The Lutheran Home at Topton has been sponsoring a program that allows nursing and personal care residents at the senior living community to give loved ones Christmas gifts at no cost to the resident.

To continue this tradition, the senior living community is currently collecting new, donated items that residents will then give to a loved one at Christmas. Items must be dropped off at the senior living community by Dec. 6.

“In the past, friends, families and local congregations have made the donations,” says Karen Sinkovits of the village staff. “This year, we’re extending the program into the community. People may bring a new, donated item to the community that will then be used to create a holiday “store” designed to give residents, who may not be able to shop off-site, a holiday shopping experience. Residents select two gifts-one for a loved one and one for themselves-that will be hand-delivered by Santa and Mrs. Claus. There is no need to wrap or tag the items; volunteers take care of that.”
