Police Reports: Update: $25,000 worth of deer reported stolen have been found, five still missing

Missing deer found after reported stolen

EARL TWP, Dec. 9 – On Dec. 7, New Holland Police issued a report of the theft of several deer from a Redwell Road residence. Events on Dec. 8 have police focusing on this being an act of criminal mischief/trespassing. Unknown actor(s) cut the lock on a fence, which allowed the deer to be released. On Dec. 8, a hunter in the area shot one of the deer that had escaped. The homeowner also observed some of his deer in neighboring properties and was able to get two of them back by tranquilizing them. Five deer are still missing, which include three doe and one buck. Anyone with information is asked to contact New Holland Police at 717-354-4647.

Previously reported online: At 10:11 a.m. on Dec. 7, New Holland Police responded to a residence in the 100 Block of Redwell Road for a theft report. The complainant, Clyde Buzzard, reported that several deer were stolen from the property. Officers determined that a lock had been cut on a fenced in area, and eight deer were taken. Buzzard stated that the theft had occurred sometime overnight. The estimated value of the animals is $25,000.

Accident leaves car disabled on railroad tracks

NEW HOLLAND BORO, Dec. 4 – New Holland Police reported a disable vehicle on the railroad tracks on the 200 Block of Brimmer Ave. on Dec. 4 at 5:29 p.m. The driver, Dwayne Reiter, 53, of Narvon made a turn off Brimmer Ave. believing that a driveway was alongside the tracks. He drove into a ditch and became disabled on the tracks. Norfolk Southern was quickly contacted and advised to stop any train that would be approaching the location. Blue Ball Garage removed the vehicle, and no injuries were reported.

Theft of Coca-Cola machineEARL TWP, Dec. 4 – At 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 4, New Holland Police responded to Wenger’s Garage on West Main Street for a theft complaint. The officers determined that someone had broken into a Coca-Cola machine on the premises. An unknown amount of change and merchandise was removed from the machine.

Two-car collision at West Main Street intersection

NEW HOLLAND BORO, Dec. 5 – A two-car crash was reported by New Holland Police on Dec. 5 at 1:30 p.m. Driver Crystal Wilson was traveling east on West Main Street and moved over to the left turn lane to turn onto Mentzer Avenue. Driver Gabriel Corporan-Reyes was pulling out of the Exxon parking lot at the corner of West Main Street and Diller Avenue and partially entered the left turn lane as Wilson passed, striking her vehicle. Minimal damage to both vehicles was reported, and there were no injuries.

Vehicle vandalized on Brimmer Avenue

NEW HOLLAND BORO, Dec. 5 – On two separate nights, Dec. 5-6, it was reported that someone keyed the sides and hood of an SUV that was parked to the rear of a residence in the first block of Brimmer Avenue. The actor(s) caused the damage sometime overnight. An estimate of the damage is unknown.

Ashlea Gardens resident charged with harassment

NEW HOLLAND BORO, Dec. 7 – At 7:25 p.m. on Dec. 7, New Holland Police investigated a domestic dispute in the Ashlea Gardens Apartment Complex. It was reported that Christian Royer, 23, had slapped his girlfriend in the face and then pulled her hair and kicked her in front of their 10-month-old child. The victim suffered minor scratches on her body, and non-traffic citation for harassment was issued to Royer.

Collision at N. Shirk Road, Huyard Road intersection

EARL TWP, Dec. 10 – New Holland Police Officer Young reported a three-car crash at the intersection of N. Shirk Road and Huyard Road at 7:55 a.m. on Dec. 10. Driver Ray Groff, 63, of Ephrata was traveling south on N. Shirk Road when he attempted to make a left turn onto Huyard Road. Groff struck the vehicle of driver Thomas Stevenson, 60, of Moscow, ID who was traveling north on N. Shirk Road. Stevenson’s vehicle then struck the vehicle of the third driver, Marvin Sweigart, 61, of Ephrata. Sweigart was stopped at the stop sign in the intersection. No one was injured during the incident, and all vehicles sustained minor damage.
