Containers overflowing with sugar coated gum drops, marshmallows, peppermints, chocolate chunks and gummy worms greeted a steady flow of students and their families at Brecknock Elementary School for their annual gingerbread house making event.

The gymnasium was packed with children and adults alike crafting their gingerbread homes Friday, Dec. 5.

“This is one of our most popularly attended events,” Dr. Maryellen Kueny, principal, said. Kueny said the gingerbread house making event has been going on for the last 15 years, at least.

Vanilla icing served as the caulking for the graham cracker covered milk carton creations. Students lets their creativity shine, making walkways, shingles, fire pits and additions.

Olaf from the Disney film “Frozen,” made an appearance, greeting the children with hugs and high-fives.
