On Dec. 4, National Penn Bancshares, Inc. announced a $25,000 contribution to Opportunity House. The donation is part of more than $1,000,000 contributed this year to eligible organizations across its marketplace by National Penn through its participation in Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program.

The educational contribution will be used to support Opportunity House’s “Ready to Read” program. The program implements goals, strategies, curriculum materials and resources, assessment tools and data to build a foundation for reading achievement for first grade students in the Reading School District.

“We are excited and honored to have our Ready to Read program approved for EITC funds, and cannot express in words our extreme gratitude towards National Penn for their support,” said Lorri Oziri, vice president for Development at Opportunity House. “It is especially rewarding to see our kids grow to their full potential, as they benefit from this reading program.”

Opportunity House is a multi-service organization that strives to improve the quality of life for children, adults and families who face various obstacles, and supports their efforts to achieve and maintain self-sufficiency and well-being.

“At National Penn we believe we have a social responsibility to our local communities. Part of this responsibility includes helping keep our youth on the right educational path. That’s why we are pleased to be able to support the Ready to Read program,” said Bruce Smith, president of National Penn’s Central Region.
