Holiday lights and decorations have drawn attention to a Kutztown home for the past couple of years.

Kutztown home owner Mike Jurewicz shares the holiday spirit through decorations and lights and displays around his family home on Luella Drive.

“The kids run up to the house, people come walking by, cars stop by,” said Mike.

The trees, house and walkways are lit up with white lights. There is even an archway over the sidewalk to walk under as neighbors pass by to admire the many inflatable and illuminated holiday decorations. Snowmen, Santa and his reindeer and candy canes greet spectators.

“The house sticks out,” he said. “I like that people like it.”

He particularly enjoys the children’s reactions.

“When we got our house, I just started getting into it. When we got a bigger house I went crazy,” said Mike. “I try to get creative, do more every year. I try to put lights everywhere I can reach.”

A resident of Luella Drive since 2004, Mike has been decorating his home with help from his son Thomas, 16. “My son helps me a lot.”

Decorating and setting up all of the lights takes several days beginning the week of Thanksgiving. Everything is stored in big, labeled totes in his shed. The inflatables go up after Thanksgiving. Then, the weekend after Thanksgiving, he flips the switch.

Wanting to share his holiday decorations with the community, he invites people to drive by evenings until 9 p.m., after which he turns off the lights out of courtesy for his neighbors and, of course, to conserve electric.
