Michael Tod Good, sixth generation owner of the Good Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, Reamstown, Pa., will discuss his family’s history and changes in burial traditions 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20. The free community lecture will be held at the funeral home, 34-38 N. Reamstown Road.

Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and tour the funeral home, which is known for its Victorian decor and quality antiques.

History records note Elias Weitzel, Sr. relocated his family to Reamstown from Weitzeltown, Berks County, in the 1830s. He assumed the role of undertaker as part of his business as a carriage and furniture maker, by main trade, and crafted the coffins required by the town folk when a death occurred.

His son, Elias Weitzel Jr., continued the business. The “Good” name came about in 1893 when Hallie Weitzel, Elias Jr.’s daughter, married Harry H. Good. A cigar maker by trade, Harry Good carried on the family business after his father-in-law’s death. Attend the Jan. 20 program to find out the rest of the story.

This lecture is one in a continuing series sponsored by the Reamstown Historical Society & Museum.
