Daniel Boone School Board President Richard Martino introduced a resolution that will honor and recognize three local police forces at the Jan. 12 Committee of the Whole Meeting.

The board will likely approve the resolution in the near future and present it to members of the Amity Township Police Department, the Birdsboro Police Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police.

“As a citizen, I don’t like what I’m seeing happening around the country,” explained Martino about the motivation for the resolution.

“The local law enforcement is the reason we can sleep at night.”

The resolution states that it is “in recognition, thanks, and support of local law enforcement,” which serve the Daniel Boone Area School District, and protects its students, staff, and community with “professionalism, honor, and distinction.”

Business Manager Loren Small said the total savings with the final bond refinance of General Obligation Note, Series of 2008, is anticipated to be $1.3 million for three years.

The partial bond refinance of $40 million on Dec. 2 netted the school district $566,000 with an interest rate of 3.09 percent.

Small said the final refinance is expected to net $734,000.

Lou Verdelli, managing director of RBC Capital Markets, Lancaster, had estimated at the board’s Nov. 24 meeting that the Dec. 2 bond refinance would net $445,000.

The board will vote Jan. 26 on the Act 1 resolution.

“In lieu of adopting a preliminary budget, the board will adopt the Act 1 [resolution] that says the board doesn’t intend to raise taxes,” said Small.

The district’s Act 1 index is 2.5 percent.

A 2.5 percent tax increase would provide the school district with $766,000 additional tax revenue.

The district’s current millage rate is 28.9618 mills.

Properties assessed at $100,000 pay $2,896 in property taxes.
