25 Years AgoJan. 24, 1990 >> The speaker at last week’s Rotary Club meeting was Hamburg Mayor John Swanger who shared interesting facts and figures about the borough as well as the plans that are being made to deal with the challenges that the 1990’s will bring.

Lisa Krick, Jonathan Grime’s Brad Werley and Bruce Lesher received their Keystone Farmer degrees from the Pennsylvania FFA Association.

50 Years AgoJan. 21, 1965 >> Members of the Junior Woman’s Club of Hamburg presented Mrs. Esther Muntz, local Public Librarian, with a copy of a new history of Pennsylvania, at their meeting in the Regal Hotel, last Wednesday evening. Mrs. Muntz also received a check from the club for the purchase of other books for the Public Library.

Russ Greenawalt and John Kalbach arranged today’s Farmer’s Day Program for fellow members of the Hamburg Rotary Club. D. Richard Wenner, State executive director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation service, spoke about “Farm Program Philosophy.”

Twenty-five enthusiastic pupils met in the auditorium last week to organize a school orchestra under the leadership of Mr. Bowman, music teacher.

Fire originating from a kerosene stove used to supply heat for the drying of photographic prints caused damage estimated at $500.00 at Dr. R.L. Berger’s home, east of Shartlesville.

100 Years AgoJan. 21, 1915 >> The first annual meeting of the stockholders of the Hahn Motor Truck and Wagon Company was held last Thursday evening, when a full report of the first year’s business was submitted. The total of the volume of business was close to $100,000.00. A recent order was received from S.D. Bausher for a specially designed two-ton truck for the Gotham Knitting Mills and Bleach Works.

Dr. Harvey E. Schock, of Philadelphia, son of Mr. and Mrs. O.D. Schock, and a graduate of Hamburg High School, was honored by being elected a member of the board of directors of the Medical Club of Philadelphia at the annual election, which was held at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel last Friday evening.

Mr. H.N. Pakenham, general manager of the Hamburg Piano Company, has secured the services of M.R.S. Waugh to act as general traveler for the company. Mr. Waugh is one of the best known wholesale piano salesmen in the trade and comes to Hamburg highly recommended. He will cover the states of Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio.
