“Do you want to build a snowman?” Even though this January has far less snow than last year, this question was not uncommon at Schuylkill Valley Community Library on Saturday, Jan. 17, for its Frozen Family Event.

Families were invited to stop by the library anytime from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to participate in the activities inspired by the popular animated movie “Frozen.” Children’s Librarian Kelly Jacoby had a number of stations set up in the library so that children and their families could jump right in.

Even inside, the children were able to create a few different kinds of snowmen, make a snowflake wand, color their favorite characters, take part in trivia from the movie and participate in a scavenger hunt using song lyrics from the movie. At the end of the hunt, they were led to the snack table and were rewarded with a special chocolate treat which just so happens to be the favorite food of the sisters Elsa and Anna in the movie.

In the children space of the library, there was a very familiar sight to children and parents alike, as the movie was set up to play throughout the event.

Jacoby commented that she liked that the event made it possible for families to stop by at any point and allowed them to participate in any of the activities at any time. Some of the attendees even just happened upon the event during their regular Saturday library trip.

Optional activities were planned outside in case of snow. Though there was little to no snow outside, and certainly not enough to make an actual snowman, Jacoby was happy that there were plenty of fun activities inside for the children.
