The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is pleased to announce the appointment of Liz McCauley as the Executive Director, effective Feb. 2. McCauley will oversee daily operations of the shelter, foster donor relations and raise community awareness through programming and educational opportunities.

“Liz’s nonprofit experience and passion for animal welfare is a perfect match for the ARL. We are confident that she will guide our shelter forward with innovative ideas and outstanding leadership,” Board President Rick Hoffmann said.

Liz has been involved with various local non-profit organizations for over 25 years and has been a dedicated volunteer at Berks ARL for the last eight years in various capacities. In recent years, she and her husband Bob Mierzejewski joined the network of foster families for the ARL’s Grey Muzzle Foster Program. They currently reside in Kenhorst with four rescued Shiba Inu dogs: Sammy, Saki, Abbey and Holly and actively continue to foster.

McCauley says, “I was the kid who was always bringing home stray or injured animals. I have loved and have been trying to save them all of my life. I am honored to be joining the amazing team at ARL and truly believe my commitment, passion for animal advocacy, and experience in non-profit management will lead the organization into the future.”

Previously, McCauley worked at the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry since 2008 as the Director of Member Services and then as the Director of Program Services where she was responsible for managing program development, service delivery, funding, and growth within various Chamber initiatives.

Originally from Schuylkill County, Liz is a graduate of Pine Grove Area High School. A Berks County resident for over 25 years, she has a B.S. in Business Administration from Albright College and will graduate in May with her Master’s Degree in Business from Alvernia University. In 2013, she earned the designation of IOM, a certification in Nonprofit Organizational Management.

The Animal Rescue League of Berks County is the largest open admission shelter in Berks County accepting more than 8,000 animals annually. The shelter runs at maximum capacity through much of the year, and provides adoption programs, spay/neuter clinics, community outreach, education, animal welfare investigation, and more to Berks County. The ARL’s mission is to impact all aspects of humane treatments of animals through quality service, accommodation and education of pet owners and the community.
