Starting March 1, Topton Fire Company will be carrying the potentially life-saving heroin antidote, narcan.

An agreement between Topton Community Ambulance Service and Topton Fire Company will allow them to administer the dose of narcan using a EVZIO Auto Injector prior to an ambulance arriving at the incident. The EVZIO Auto Injector has a small speaker that guides the firefighter on how to administer the narcan. The Auto Injector is very similar to an Epi-Pen that is carried by individuals that are prone to allergic reactions.

Topton Community Ambulance Service received a grant from Kaleo Pharmaceuticals in order to provide the fire company with the EVZIO Auto Injectors.

Starting on March 1 a Topton fire truck will be dispatched along with an ambulance to any call involving a possible overdose within the municipalities that the fire company serves.

By Topton Community Ambulance being able to provide the EVZIO Auto Injectors to the Topton Fire Company through the Kaleo grant, the Topton Fire Company will be better equipped and trained to handle potential overdoses within the municipalities they serve.
