In celebration of Fat Tuesday on Feb. 17, the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles opened the Fegely’s Reading Diner for their first annual Fastnacht Day.

Community members were invited to come out and enjoy Fastnacht, coffee or tea inside of the restored 1938 Monarch model dining car.

According to museum curator Kendra Cook, the idea of opening the diner for the celebration was suggested by a member.

“It seemed appropriate considering how much we hear about the PA Dutch food they served there,” said Cook. “It fit nicely together.”

The diner is primarily opened for the purposes of serving food during the museum’s “Diner Days” held in April and November each year.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we do it again next year,” said Cook, noting that despite the wintry weather in the morning, the event was a success. She also mentioned how one couple came in just to see the museum and they were “tickled pink” about the event they encountered. “It was neat to see the different reactions.”

Fastnacht Day is also know as “Shrove Tuesday,” or “Mardi Gras.”
