Kutztown Area School District Educational Foundation appoints directors, announces scholarships

The Kutztown Area School District Educational Foundation held it’s annual meeting last month.

During that meeting four directors were elected to a three year term. They are Atty. Robert Grim, Dr. Brenda Winkler, Sheila Fulton and Rob Gottlund. They join the following directors on the board: Ben Haas, Wm. Yoder, Andy Brett, Marci Grossman, DeLight Breidegam, Diane Haring, Lynn Silan-Torcolini and Jason Feiertag.

The following officers were re-elected: President: Rob Gottlund, Vice-President: Atty. Robert Grim, Secretary: Sheila Fulton, Treasurer: Jason Feiertag. Also, Dr. Brenda Winkler was re-appointed executive director.

The foundation, which exists to provide not only scholarships to students but also to foster innovative programs through the ETIC program which is a state program to reward companies that contribute monies to the foundation through their profits get tax incentives. The foundation then grants that money to the school district for innovative programs that typically are not budgeted. There is no grade level that money is specifically provided for. Over the past 13 years the foundation has funded over $300,000 in these projects.

Additionally, it was announced that there is two new scholarships announced: one is the Silan Engineering/Technology scholarship and the Shoemaker scholarship. In addition, it was announced that there will be an enhancement of the Silan salulatorian scholarship. Questions about these scholarships and the other existing ones should be referred to the high school guidance office.

The board also is soliciting additional scholarships named for either individuals/program areas.

The Foundation also runs the annual Distinguished Alumni program with an award, a plaque, and a reception. This reception is also used to raise more money for the general scholarship fund. The board meets quarterly and has an annual meeting in January each year.
