Enjoy the sounds of “the auld sod” when Hooley School of Irish Dance brings a rousing performance to Garden Spot Village on Saturday, March 21, as part of the community’s popular Saturday Evening Concert Series.

“These spirited young dancers are sure to entertain, and we encourage the public to join us for the show,” said Colleen Musselman, director of life enrichment at Garden Spot Village.

Ranging in age from 5 to 18, the dancers will perform a variety of hard-shoe and soft-shoe dances, including reels, jigs and hornpipes, as well as traditional Irish singing songs.

“The shows include descriptions and the history of the dances, so the audience will learn about Irish culture and traditions while they are being entertained,” Musselman said.

Located in Akron, Hooley School of Irish Dance was established in 2009 to cultivate character and excellence among its dancers through a supportive community and learning environment. Hooley School director Crystal Glick Carper, TCRG, began studying Irish dance at the age of 12. She retired from competition in 2006 and was certified to teach Irish dance in 2008 through An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha-CLRG in Dublin, Ireland.

The final performance in the Saturday Evening Concert Series at Garden Spot Village will be the Lancaster Bible College Chamber Singers on April 18.

All concerts begin at 7 p.m. in the chapel at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland. The concerts are free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.
