Amity >> A township man who briefly was pursued by police into a wooded area over the weekend turned himself in on Tuesday.

Joseph Wentzel, 38, was being sought for an incident in the 400 block of Hill Road during which he allegedly threatened kill his brother, James, police said.

At 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Wentzel turned himself in at the court room of District Judge Victor Frederick IV, according to a press release from Amity Police.

He was charged with one count each of terroristic threats and harassment. His arraignment and bail information was not immediately available, according to the police release.

Amity Police Chief Kent Shuebrook said police had called off a “short pursuit” of Wentzel on Sunday to avoid escalating a misdemeanor offense to something much worse.

“Joseph is very familiar with the terrain. He knows all of the places he can conceal himself. There are rocks and boulders and small caves. Even a helicopter wouldn’t be able to pick him up,” Shuebrook said. “This is an offense between two brothers, and there is no indication of any kind that he posed any threat to the community.”
