New Holland Police: Ephrata National Bank robbed; Father charged with DUI, endangering his children; 2 men cited for running over 3 road signs

Ephrata National Bank robbed in Earl Township

New Holland Police responded to Ephrata National Bank, 935 N. Railroad Ave., Earl Township for a robbery on March 16 at 9:30 a.m.

The suspect entered the bank and handed the teller a note demanding cash. No weapon was displayed. The suspect fled the bank after receiving an undisclosed amount.

Suspect described as white male in his early 40s with dark hair and scruffy face, small build about 5 foot 5 inches to 9 inches wearing checkered shirt, dark pants, knit hat and colored tinted sunglasses.

Suspect was last seen running across Route 322 and entering a dark green four-door vehicle, possibly a VW which was last seen traveling north on Wanner Road. The suspect entered the passenger side of the vehicle was occupied by a waiting driver.

The bank was open at the time with customers, no one was injured.

Father was under influence of alcohol when he drove his 3 children to health center

New Holland Police were called to Garden Spot Center For Health after an intoxicated male, Alvin Miller, 35, New Holland, arrived with his three minor children. Miller had been stagging and fell over at one point.

New Holland Police determined that Miller was under the influence of alcohol. Miller was charged with DUI, as well as three counts of endangering the welfare of a child for having his three minor children in the vehicle.

Miller was arraigned before MDJ Rodney Hartman and committed to Lancaster County Prison after failing to post $40,000 bail.

All three children were turned over to a relative.

Two men, ages 18 and 19, run over road signs

Charles Nolt, 18, New Holland, and Joshua Burkholder, 19, Reinholds, were issued a citation for criminal mischief. On Feb. 28 at about 9:30 p.m., Both Nolt and Burkholder got into an old farm truck and intentionally ran over three road signs at various locations in Earl Township. Amount of damage to the signs is $240.
