To celebrate National Literacy Month in March, the Hamburg Branch of Tompkins VIST Bank and its representatives sponsored an evening Family Story Hour at the Hamburg Public Library on Tuesday, March 17. Because of the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, there were green decorations and refreshments also provided by the bank, its manager Beth Heckart and the employees of the bank.

Children’s librarian Donna Sweigert read stories to the assembled children and their parents and helped with St. Patrick’s Day themed crafts. More than 30 children and their parents were in attendance for the program that lasted over an hour.

Children’s programs are held at the library most Wednesday and Friday mornings at 11 a.m. The schedules for children’s programs are available at the library in paper format or online at the library’s website at www.berks.lib.pa.us/hamburgpl. You may also phone the library at 610-562-2843.

Donna and the staff at the Berks County Libraries system are presently preparing for this year’s annual Summer Reading Program, which will begin in June.

It is part of Tompkins VIST’s mission to connect with their community at least quarterly. Last fall a blood drive was held at the Hamburg branch. The family story time at the library was the latest of their efforts.
