Jacob Kanavins of Oley will perform in the production of the comedy “Tartuffe,” by Lebanon Valley College’s Wig and Buckle Theater Company. The play is set to debut April 18, at 8 p.m.

This final production for the 2014-2015 season is sure to be a hit. Kanavins, a graduate of Oley Valley High School, is pursuing a bachelor of arts in English at The Valley.

“Tartuffe,” which takes place in Paris, was written and first performed in 1664. When Orgon, the master of the house, takes in the seemingly pious Tartuffe, the rest of the members of the household -namely Dorine, the housemaid – see right through him as a fake. When Orgon calls off the marriage plans of his daughter, Mariane, to the handsome Valere in order for her to marry Tartuffe, every member of the house must work together to try and change Orgon’s mind and save Mariane.

Since 1935, Wig and Buckle has performed musicals and plays for the enjoyment of LVC students and the community. Showings of “Tartuffe” will be April 18, 23, 24, and 25 at 8 p.m., and April 19 and 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are free for LVC students, $15 for adults; $10 for non-LVC students, alumni, and faculty; $5 for children 10 and under; $5 for seniors 60 and over.
