Great things are happening at our Honey Brook Community Library!

The Twin Valley, Honey Brook Girl Scout Junior Troop 1441 is currently working on their Gardener badge, which their final project will consist of planting a large seasonal flower garden along the side of the Library!

On Tuesday, April 21, the Troop prepared the area by pulling out existing invasive plants, shoveling the topsoil, and shoveling the leaf compost into the area for the next phase of planting a large seasonal flowering garden. The girls have been researching native perennial plants and with guidance from Penn State Master Gardener Aurora Green they are in the planning stage of selecting appropriate plants that will be used in the garden. The goal is to plant the flowering garden at the library by mid-May.

During this project, we have received an incredible amount of support from the community and surrounding businesses! A special thanks and gratitude to the following community members and businesses for assisting: John Darlington and his sons for cutting out the existing bushes and building a small wooden box around the water tank; Harlan Tree Service for shredding the bushes; Chester County Solid Waste Authority for donating over 10 yards of leaf compost; Weavers Mulch for discounting 5 yards of topsoil purchased by the Friends of the Honey Brook Community Library; and Biddle Landscaping for bringing a crew of 6 men assisting and guiding the Scouts with the placement and shoveling of the leaf compost and topsoil into the garden bed.

If you would like to assist the troop with their garden project you can make a monetary donation or if you are thinning out your personal gardens and have perennial, native plants that can grow in partial shade/partial sun and that are relatively self-sustainable please contact Mrs. Green at auroraapg@aol.com by May 5.
