More than 250 students from High Point Baptist Academy in Geigertown completed the school’s annual Race for Education fundraiser at the High Point Camp property on April 16.

This community event involved parents, volunteers, and local businesses joining efforts to provide a fun day for the student body and financial support for the project. This year’s goal of $40,000 is slated to support renovations of current school space to a new Fine Arts Center. The transformed space will provide a needed permanent space for the school’s growing art and music departments.

The walk-a-thon event began at noon with the High Point middle and high school students participating in their portion of the race. After those students finished, the school’s pep club led a pep rally that involved minute-to-win-it style games for the students who brought in the most mailing labels in their grade level. After the pep rally, the elementary school students ran their portion of the event.

Rita’s of Morgantown graciously provided water ice for the students at the finish line.

As part of the fun, drawings were held for students who participated in the mailer portion of the fundraising. Elementary students had the chance to win a $50 Toys R Us gift card. Middle school and lower high school students could enter to win a Target gift card, and juniors and seniors competed for a skip day and for scholarship money to help cover the senior trip.

Winners included senior Amanda Vroegindewey of Morgantown, junior Lexi Kauffman of Shillington, freshman Olivia Dilworth of Spring City, and first grader Jonathan Hunsinger of Oley.
