Fleetwood Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1793 had a Manners Outing at Simmeria in Fleetwood.

During the outing, the troop talked about basic manners and learned the golden rule. The troop leader had some interactive worksheets and the girls gave examples of different kinds of manners. The leader and assistant leader physically demonstrated “rude” behavior, verbally and with body language. The troop then talked about why it’s important to use their manners and how it makes each of them feel when others don’t follow the golden rule. They discussed bullying and the girls took an anti-bullying pledge.

They had a simple etiquette lesson about speaking clearly when spoken to and looking people in the eyes when addressing them. They talked about body language when speaking to people or in a group. They discussed the importance of thank you notes. Then they all had a paper place mat with a table setting printed on it.

The girls learned basic table setting and set their own place. Then the girls were instructed on placing a napkin in their laps and served snack family style. Everyone had to pass the bowls politely using their manners and pour beverages on their own. They all waited for each of their friends to have an opportunity to select what food they liked and then they started eating together as a group. The girls were extremely receptive to this.

Their leader and assistant leader are hopeful they will remember the lessons and carry them through their life.
