AMITY >> Township police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the armed robbery of a 74-year-old Birdsboro man outside the National Penn Bank Sunday night to contact them at 610-689-6002, ext. 250.

According to police the robbery occurred around 10:35 p.m. outside the bank located at 63 Old Swede Road (Route 662), near the intersection with Route 422.

A white male wearing dark clothing and a mask covering his face from the nose down, climbed into the victim’s car after the victim had withdrawn money from the bank’s ATM machine, police said.

The robber pointed a black handgun at the victim and told him to hand over his money, said police.

The victim gave him $40 and the robber was last seen running from the rear of the bank towards Old Swede Road, police said.

Township police are in the process of obtaining surveillance pictures of the robbery, but they are also asking anyone with any information on the robbery to call Detective Jeffrey Smith at 610-689-6002, ext. 250.

This robbery is the second in four days within the same stretch of Route 422.

On Thursday, April 30, a suspect who also covered his face from the nose down, robbed the Speedway convenience store at knife-point.

Police found the knife, but not the suspect.

Smith is in charged of that investigation as well.
