Grace Kutz, daughter of Glenn and Alicia Kutz of Hamburg, and a freshman at Hamburg Area High School, placed third in the 4-Way Test Speech Contest for Rotary District 7430 held in Gettysburg Saturday, April 25. She received a cash prize of $350 for her speech on awareness of sexual violence.

Grace was the only freshman who competed against three other upperclassmen representing District 7430.

The audience was made up of Hamburg Rotary Club President Titus A. Miller III, other Rotarians from southeastern Pennsylvania, the parents of the contestants, students participating in the Rotary Youth Exchange, and visiting Rotarians from Wales.

One of the Rotarians from Wales commented on Grace, “What a brave young woman!”

Several of the exchange students, both Americans and international students, came up to Grace after her speech to commend her on her topic and express appreciation for her speech.

The 4-Way Test Speech Contest will be held again next year, and students in grades 9 through 12 are encouraged to participate. Students choose a topic of importance to them and write and give a five-to-seven minute persuasive speech that addresses the questions of the 4-Way Test. Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Does it build good will and better friendships? Is it beneficial to all concerned?
