25 Years AgoMay 9, 1990 >> The borough of Shoemakersville was alive with celebration Saturday afternoon as residents and visitors turned out to see the parade heralding the town’s 225th anniversary.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Seaman of RD2 Hamburg celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary recently with a dinner given by their children at Indian Fort Inn, West Hamburg.

50 Years AgoMay 13, 1965 >> Fourteen Club members participated in a skit “Accepted with Regrets” which was presented for Hamburg Rotarians this noon. George Fryer was program chairman.
Susan Naftzinger, a sixth grade pupil, was crowned Queen of May during a program presented by Tilden students in the grade school auditorium last Friday afternoon.
Hamburg Area School directors authorized contracts totaling $94,704.00 for outdoor physical education and athletic facilities, at the meeting in the joint high school on Tuesday evening.

75 Years AgoMay 9, 1940 >> Special services to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the congregations’ first church in Hamburg will be held in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pine Street and Church Avenue at 10:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Harry J. Stuber, district supervisor of Census Enumerators, reports that the results of the borough of Hamburg show a population of 3690 and six farms in the borough.

100 Years AgoMay 13, 1915 >> The public sale of building lots in the new Belmont addition next Saturday afternoon will attract hundreds of people. A band will enliven the occasion with music, and a $200.00 lot and bags of gold and silver will be awarded to some people in attendance. The Young House & Home Company of Harrisburg is conducting the sale.
As the season advances, the popularity of the Blue Mountain Club House increases. Last Friday evening a party of 35 Shriners from town and Reading were served with luncheon during an important meeting held there.
On Sunday, Steward Ely served 73 people with a chicken dinner, at two sittings. The crowd was made up of people from town. Reading, Pottsville and other Schuylkill County points, mostly automobile parties who stopped for the meal.
