Old prom gowns and bridesmaid dresses were pulled out of the back of the closet and dusted off for a night of fun at the 3rd Annual Mom Prom at the Kutztown Fire Company on May 1.
Kutztown Area School District United Way Campaign Committee invited ladies of all ages to the United Way of Berks County benefit event. They did not need to be moms to attend.
“Just a fun night out for ladies to raise funds for United Way,” said Rebecca Ziegler of the United Way committee. “DJ and dancing all night, tons of raffle prizes and lots of fun.”
Mark Weida was spinning the tunes while his son Travis took song requests.
A row of raffle items were donated to benefit the United Way of Berks County.
Lisa Swope tried her hand at one of the games of change.
Volunteer waiters Paul, Jim, Rick, Eddie, and Fred were on hand and ready to respond to every beck and call.
John Ebner snapped green screen photos, allowing Becka and Denise Youpa to get pics at the beach, in Paris, and take a balloon ride all in a matter of moments.
Every year, the Kutztown Area School District participates in a campaign to raise funds for the United Way of Berks County. The KASD United Way committee raised more than $26,000 in total for their campaign last year.
Previously she told The Patriot, “The idea of Mom Prom is actually a nationwide movement, a ladies’ night out, originating in Michigan in 2006 when ladies from a Canton church got together to raise funds for charity. It’s a chance for women of all ages to get together with their friends, wear old prom gowns or bridesmaids dresses if they like, and dance the night away, all while raising funds for a worthy cause,” said Ziegler.
Different this year was the addition of some carnival games. Returning this year was hot and cold Hors d’oeuvres, desserts, soft drinks, wine and mixed drink fountain.
