The streets of Honey Brook echoed with Latin rhythms May 1 as local Zumba Instructors came together at the Honey Brook Fire Company for a Zumbathon Charity Event.

Organized by local breast cancer survivor, Dawn Robb, and licensed Zumba instructor, Megan McNicholas, the event raised more than $200 for Ms. Robb’s 3-Day Walk for the Cure Team, “Mancave for Boobies.”

Participants in the event included local supporters, family and friends of Ms. Robb, as well as dedicated Zumba students of the featured instructors, Mary Chapulsky, Joanne Giotti, Megan McNicholas and Susan Woodard. The Zumbathon provided two and one half hours of dancing, sweating, and smiling for everyone. “I had the best time, and can’t wait to do it again,” stated Jennifer Leary, Honey Brook local and Zumba enthusiast.

Ms. Robb has participated in the 3-Day Walk for five years, in order to raise money for the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer research, education, advocacy and social support. Team members must raise a total of $2,300 each in order to walk in the event. In addition to the Zumbathon, Ms. Robb is raffling off tickets to the Preston and Steve Show, as well as accepting online donations at her 3-Day Site, www.the3day.org/goto/drobb.

For those who missed the event, but would like to participate in a Zumbathon fundraiser, another opportunity to sweat to the beat for a great cause will take place on Friday, June 5. The Honey Brook Fire Company will be hosting a second Zumbathon from 6:30 to 9 p.m. to raise money for the local fire station.
