The Honey Brook Borough Park and Recreation Committee has planned fun-filled family activities for the 2015 season. Musical concerts and bocce tournaments are on the calendar to bring the community together for summer fun and relaxation.
The free Concert in the Park series will continue with the first concert scheduled for Sunday, June 7.
Renowned singer-songwriter Jeffrey Gaines will take the stage at 5:30 p.m. and entertain the audience with his impassioned, soulful vocals and acoustic guitar work. Jeffrey brought his original voice and exquisite songwriting to the forefront in the early 1990s and has toured with accomplished artists like Stevie Nicks, Tom Petty, Sting, Tori Amos, Melissa Etheridge and Joe Jackson. Gaines was invited to contribute to the “We are Family” CD in 2001 which benefited the families affected by the September 11, 2001 attacks. The second concert of the season will be held on Sunday, August 9 at 5:30 p.m., featuring Philadelphia-based Americana band Black Horse Motel. They will entertain the audience with their original sound that draws on traditional folk roots and incorporates an infectious blend of vocal harmonies, traditional banjo and mandolin as well as guitars, strings and drums. The third concert of the summer will be held on Sunday, July 12 at 5:30 p.m., when the Duzzin Matta Band takes the stage to perform a variety of classic rock cover tunes. The drummer in the band, Chuck Kildea, is a Honey Brook resident and is looking forward to the opportunity to showcase the band’s talent and enthusiasm for performing. The only thing that matters to the members of The Duzzn Matta Band, is playing the music they love for people to enjoy. This summer, they hope you’ll come out to enjoy their mix of Classic Rock covers from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Included among their repertoire are tunes you may recognize from The Rolling Stones, Neil Young, The Eagles, BTO, The Beatles, The Black Crows and many others.
Duzzn Matta members include Chuck from Honey Brook (Drums), Luke from Elverson (Keyboard), David from West Chester (Bass Guitar), John of Warrington (Guitar), Kevin from Oxford (Lead Vocals) and Steve from Downingtown (Guitar). The band came together over the last couple of years, with each member bringing several years to several decades of experience performing in various musical groups.
Back by popular demand, and wrapping up the concert season, Across the Pond will perform on Sunday, September 13 at 5 p.m.. Across the Pond is a multi-instrumental trio performing their own “High Octane” arrangements of Irish and Scottish tunes and songs that hail straight from the pubs of Ireland and Scotland. The sounds of guitar, mandolin, flute, whistles, fiddle and bodhran will surely transport the audience “across the pond”.
With repertoire ranging from hauntingly slow airs to high energy jigs and reels, Across the Pond has been recognized as one of the premier Celtic bands in southcentral PA. Visit www.acrossthepondmusic.com.
The Honey Brook Lions Club will have food and beverages available for purchase at each concert. Concert goers are encouraged to bring picnics, lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of music in a beautiful outdoor setting.
Honey Brook Borough, in support of the Honey Brook Food Pantry will be collecting food donations at each concert. Donations of nonperishable food items, toiletries and paper products will be much appreciated.
In the event of inclement weather the concert will be cancelled by 1 p.m. the day of the show. There will be a recorded message on the borough office line, 610-273-2020. Every effort will be made by the borough and the performers to reschedule cancelled concerts.
