Top Alvernia University students received awards for their hard work at the annual Honors Convocation on Sunday, April 26.

Kevin Shainline of Boyertown, studying Psychology earned the Outstanding Student in the Humanities and High Achievement Award in Theology from the Humanities department. The Outstanding Student award is presented to a graduating senior who maintains a grade point average of 3.7 in his or her major, a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 overall, and demonstrates superior ability and leadership in the study of humanities. The High Achievement Award is presented to a senior who maintains a grade point average of 3.5 in a particular field of humanities, as well as a cumulative grade point average of 3.3.

From the Psychology department, Shainline earned the Academic Excellence and Service Awards – presented in recognition of a student’s outstanding achievement in the area of service. Students who achieve this award embrace the mission of Alvernia by serving in their community and embodying the ideal of “knowledge joined with love.” The university’s Holleran Center for Community Engagement presented him with another award for graduating seniors who have completed 500 hours of service to the community as Alvernia students. Recipients of this award receive a plaque honoring this accomplishment.

Brielle Gincley of Boyertown studying Marketing earned the Excellence in Marketing Award from the Business department. The Excellence in Marketing award is presented to a student who demonstrates superior academic performance and potential for professional accomplishment in marketing.

In addition, Gincley earned the university’s Graduation Award for Excellence in Service. This award is presented by the Holleran Center to graduating seniors who have completed at least 300 hours of service to the community as Alvernia students. These students receive a special cord to be worn at Commencement.
